  • Support Tools and Plug-ins

    Plug-ins, Players, and Viewers

Plug-ins and other helper applications  help to properly display Web documents. If you encounter an element (such as video or animation) that requires one of these helpers, you may see a message that your browser isn't equipped for that content type. Viewers are tools needed to display certain files formats, such as a PowerPoint slide show. Players allow users to view video directly on computer systems. Listed below are some common plug-ins, viewers, and players that are used on the Web in general, and may also be used in your Blackboard courses.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is free and freely distributable software that lets you view and print Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Download only if Acrobat Reader is not already installed on your computer.

Apple QuickTime player is used for viewing video in Apple's QuickTime format. It works with over 30 audio, video and image formats.

Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 2003   and Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 2007 are used for viewing and printing PowerPoint presentations (if PowerPoint is not already installed). You should download one of these files if you do not already have PowerPoint installed on your computer.

Macromedia Shockwave and Flash is used for viewing interactive content in various Macromedia formats.

Real Player is one of the general players used for streaming audio and video content.
